CFI Discretionary Grant Program Round 2: $800 Million Available

The push for more accessible electric vehicle (EV) charging and alternative fueling infrastructure just got a significant boost. The Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Discretionary Grant Program (Round 2) is now offering up to $800 million in new funding, and PISO is proud to be helping municipalities and qualified applicants submit applications. This grant will help strategically fill EV charging gaps across the country while supporting EV charging along designated Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFCs) and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Funding Details

This program provides two funding categories of grants: (1) Community Charging and Alternative Fueling Grants – Community Program and (2) Charging and Alternative Fuel Corridor Grants – Corridor Program.

  • Total Funding: Up to $800 million available in Round 2 for new applicants.
  • Community Program Grant Awards:
    • Minimum: $500,000
    • Maximum: $15 million
  • Corridor Program Grant Awards:
    • Minimum: $1 million
    • No maximum limit

Eligible Projects and Costs

Community Program:

  • Projects expected to reduce emissions and expand infrastructure access.
  • A project located on any public road or in another publicly accessible location.
  • Costs covered include the acquisition and installation of infrastructure, planning and engineering, construction, property acquisition, and educational activities.

Corridor Program:

  • Any project expected to support EV charging infrastructure along designated AFCs.
  • Must be within 5 miles of designated AFCs.
  • Publicly accessible charging and fueling infrastructure.
  • The project must contract with a private entity for the acquisition, installation, and operation of eligible infrastructure.
  • Costs covered include acquisition and installation engineering, design, and five years of operating assistance following installation.

Who Can Apply?

Eligible applicants for the CFI grant include:

  • States and political subdivisions
  • Metropolitan planning organizations
  • Local governments
  • Special purpose districts or public authorities with transportation functions
  • Indian Tribes
  • U.S. Territories
  • Authorities or agencies owned by eligible entities
  • Groups of eligible entities
  • State or local authorities with publicly accessible transportation facilities (Community Program only)

Applications must be submitted via Grants.gov by midnight Eastern time on August 28, 2024.
