Governor Hochul Accelerates New York City’s Electric Vehicle Infrastructure with 100 New Fast Chargers

Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a significant milestone in New York State’s commitment to electrifying its transportation sector: the installation of over 100 new fast chargers in New York City. This announcement builds on New York’s $1 billion investment in electrifying its transportation sector, underscoring the state’s dedication to reducing emissions and achieving its Climate Act goals. Governor Hochul said. “Electric vehicle purchases have risen 660 percent in the last five years, and we are increasing the availability of EV fast chargers throughout New York.

Partnership for Progress

In partnership with the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT), the New York Power Authority (NYPA) is spearheading the construction of these chargers, which include 76 high-speed chargers at thirteen new EVolve NY hubs, 20 fast chargers owned by the City, and 12 chargers at LaGuardia Airport. Most of these sites are slated to be completed by 2025, with all online by 2026.

Expanding Access Across the State

EVolve NY’s expansion across the state is making it significantly easier for New Yorkers to travel and find fast chargers, with a total of 90 sites and 400 chargers planned by the end of 2025. This network, coupled with New York’s existing EV infrastructure, supports the growing adoption of electric vehicles.

New York State’s commitment to clean transportation is further evidenced by its robust incentives and programs, including the Drive Clean Rebate, Charge Ready 2.0 program, and the EV Make Ready Program.
