We are excited to share that New York’s EV Make Ready Program has increased the incentive amounts for 2024! This change will make it even easier for entities to install Level 2 (L2) and Direct Current Fast Charging (DCFC) chargers, continuing to pave the way for a more accessible EV Future for all.
Incentive Increase & Amendments
After the Public Service Commission conducted its midpoint review of the Joint Utilities EV Make Ready Program, a program-wide incentive dollar increase was announced. Each incentive program was allotted a per-plug incentive increase of about 15% and an increase of anywhere from 45% to 90% for DCFC projects. (DCFC funding is slightly different because it is a per kW incentive rather than per port). In addition, the plug count goals for the program have been amended to be more achievable, as many of the initial goals were found to be lofty and unattainable. This increase is a big win for the EV charging landscape, pushing us toward a cleaner environment and making EV charging more accessible.
EV Make Ready Program At a Glance
The goal of the Electric Vehicle (“EV”) Make-Ready Program (“EV Make-Ready Program”) is to support the development of electric infrastructure and equipment necessary to accommodate an increased deployment of EVs within New York State by reducing the upfront costs of building charging stations for EVs. Through this EV Make-Ready Program, entities seeking to install or participate in the installation of Level 2 (“L2”) and/or Direct Current Fast Charging (“DCFC”) chargers can earn incentives that will offset a large portion of, or in some cases, all of the infrastructure costs associated with preparing a site for EV charger installation.
Available Incentives
Incentive levels range from up to 50% to 100% of all costs associated with the infrastructure and installation of new EV Charging stations dependent upon project criteria. Participating in the Make-Ready Program will also reduce your organization’s time investment by providing a dedicated point of contact to assist with a streamlined, step-by-step installation of your electric vehicle charging stations.
Each incentive level corresponds with specific project criteria for eligibility. Find out what incentive level your project may be eligible for by taking a look at the chart here. Please note there are also Enhanced Incentive Eligibility Criteria based upon each specific Utility and its service territory.
