MTA Bridges and Tunnels: Meeting the Needs of a Growing Fleet
The Manhattan Transportation Authority Bridges and Tunnels (MTA B&T), which operates seven bridges and two tunnels in New York City, has committed to adopting electric vehicles in both their maintenance fleet and pursuit vehicles. To meet its EV goals, the agency looked to PISO to plan, manage, and execute its charging infrastructure project.
Breaking Ground
MTA B&T was working within their existing sites and faced challenges with the location sizes, parking spot availability, power capacity, obtaining permits, starting construction, and more. They needed a partner that would manage the full scope of the project outside of providing technical support.
Site Work
From permits and engineered drawings to construction execution, PISO helped MTA B&T achieve its EV goals through professional services and expertise. The EV company was able to demonstrate that it had the design ideas and solutions to solve the complex challenges MTA was experiencing.
Post Install
The scope of this project was to build two sites with one DV fast charger at each location. The first site, Triboro, located inside the MTA B&T maintenance facilities, required the breakup of the existing parking lot and the pouring of new concrete for the base of the DC fast charger, as well as a 300 ft run of conduit. The other site, located at the Robert Moses building of MTA B&T headquarters, consisted of one DC fast charger in a newly poured island of concrete. Both sites charge a small fleet of EVs the MTA B&T uses to jockey between facilities.
Finished Product
PISO successfully built out the EV infrastructure for MTA B&T at their two main locations. They installed four total DC charging ports that include at least 2 CHAdeMO at 50 kW and 2 CCS at 62.5 kW. On many occasions, MTA has reached out to PISO to share how happy they are with the installation and how well its been working for their needs.
Upon completion of the two sites, the state agency expressed a desire to implement an EV infrastructure at their additional sites.
