Expanding Workplace EV Accessibility at Riverview Innovation Center

The Riverview Innovation Center, located at 150 Broadway in Menands, NY, is a key business complex in the Capital Region, home to a diverse range of public and private offices. To support the transition to electric vehicle (EV) usage among employees and visitors, PISO was enlisted for a two-phase EV charging project. This initiative, in partnership with SWTCH Energy, incorporates National Grid and NYSERDA funding making EV infrastructure more affordable and accessible to the site host.

Key Highlights

  • Phase 1: Installation of 10 single-port 80A Zerova Wall Mount Chargers with cable management for employee and visitor use, capable of adding 40-60 miles of range per hour.
  • Phase 2 (in progress): Includes four Level 2 80A chargers (complete) and one dual-port Zerova 60kW DC Fast Charger, primarily for NYS Department of Health (DOH) staff but publicly accessible.
  • Collaborative Partner: SWTCH Energy, known for optimizing existing electrical infrastructure for scalable EV charging.
  • Funding Support: Leveraged National Grid and NYSERDA funding to ensure affordability for the site host.

Breaking Ground

PISO faced the challenge of navigating around a scheduled resurfacing of the parking lot during Phase 2. With only five days to complete the trenching, wire, and conduit work before paving, PISO expedited the site mark-out and sent additional technicians to ensure timely completion. This proactive approach ensured that the new asphalt remained unblemished by trench lines, preserving the visual appeal of the newly resurfaced lot while staying on schedule.

Finished Project & What’s to Come

With Phase 1 fully operational, Riverview Innovation Center offers accessible charging for employees and visitors alike, bolstering the site’s EV readiness. The Level 2 chargers for phase 2 are now operational and the dual-port Zerova 60kW DC Fast Charger will be installed and operational by year-end. Phase 2 is set to enhance the infrastructure further, delivering dedicated EV charging for DOH staff alongside public access, with completion expected by the end of November 2024. Together, these installations represent a significant step forward in making EV charging more accessible across the Capital Region.
