To bring public fast charging to one of Queens’ easternmost communities, PISO partnered with the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and Electrify America to design and build a 6-dispenser DC fast charging site in Rosedale, along the Queens/Nassau County line.
The Challenge
- Coordinating approvals across NYPA, NYC DOT, and Con Edison for a site near the Queens/Nassau County border
- Working through New York City’s multi-layered permitting process, widely considered the most demanding in the country
- Managing unforeseen subsurface conditions uncovered once construction began
- Securing sufficient utility capacity for a 6-dispenser DC fast charging installation
The Solution
- Full turnkey design/build delivery, from engineering and permitting through construction and commissioning
- Construction of a 6-dispenser DC fast charging site for public use
- Installation of a Con Edison M-11 utility vault, excavated to a depth of approximately 9 feet to deliver utility power to the site
- Ongoing coordination with NYPA, Con Edison, and NYC DOT to keep the project on schedule
The Impact
The Rosedale project brought reliable public DC fast charging to eastern Queens, closing a gap in charging access near the Nassau County line. The project reflected PISO’s consistency in delivering high-capacity sites on schedule, regardless of where a project fell within the city’s regulatory landscape.
