To support New York City’s growing demand for electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, PISO partnered with the New York Power Authority and Electrify America to deliver a high-capacity DC fast charging site in Flushing, Queens, transforming a NYC DOT-owned parking lot into a critical public charging hub.

The Challenge
As EV adoption accelerates across New York City, expanding accessible, reliable charging infrastructure in dense urban environments remains a significant challenge.
The Flushing site presented multiple layers of complexity, including:
- Navigating New York City’s highly regulated permitting process, requiring coordination with approximately eight Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs)
- Working within a high-traffic, space-constrained urban environment
- Managing underground obstructions commonly found in older NYC infrastructure, including existing utility conflicts
- Meeting strict New York City construction and material requirements, including specialized conduit and wiring standards
- Coordinating construction in an active public parking area with limited staging space
The Solution
PISO provided a turnkey EV infrastructure solution, managing the project from engineering and permitting through construction and commissioning.
Project highlights included:
- Construction of an 8-dispenser DC fast charging site for public use
- Installation of high-capacity electrical infrastructure and EV charging equipment
- Deployment of a custom equipment enclosure valued at approximately $300,000 to support the site’s electrical systems
- Full coordination with New York Power Authority, Electrify America, Con Edison, NYC DOT, and additional permitting agencies
- End-to-end project execution in one of the country’s most demanding construction environments
The Impact
The Flushing project represents another milestone in expanding equitable access to EV charging infrastructure throughout New York City. The project also reinforces PISO’s growing reputation as a trusted partner capable of delivering highly technical EV infrastructure projects in complex urban markets. According to internal project discussions, New York City EV infrastructure work now represents a significant portion of PISO’s growth and ongoing project pipeline.
