To meet growing demand for public EV charging in one of Queens’ busiest commercial corridors, PISO partnered with the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and Electrify America to design and build an 8-dispenser DC fast charging site in Flushing, Queens.
The Challenge
- Working within an already dense, high-traffic section of Flushing, with limited available space for staging and construction
- Coordinating permitting and inspections across NYPA, NYC DOT, and Con Edison
- Managing unexpected subsurface utility conflicts typical of older NYC infrastructure once ground was broken
- Meeting the multiple layers of municipal approval required to build in New York City
The Solution
- Full turnkey delivery, from design and permitting through construction and commissioning
- Construction of an 8-dispenser DC fast charging site for public use
- Installation of a Con Edison M-11 utility vault, engineered to reach a depth of 9 feet to bring utility power to the site
- Continuous coordination across all involved agencies to manage approvals and keep construction on track
The Impact
The Flushing project added meaningful public DC fast charging capacity to one of Queens’ most heavily trafficked commercial districts, reinforcing the neighborhood’s role as a growing charging hub. The project reflected PISO’s ability to deliver complex, high-capacity infrastructure in one of the city’s busiest urban corridors.
